About the data
This metric covers Sustainable Development Goal 16 of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Goal 16 aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. SDG 16 addresses: reducing violence, ending violence against children (including trafficking), promoting rule of law and access to justice, reducing illicit flows and combating organized crime, reducing corruption and bribery, developing effective, accountable and transparent institutions, ensuring inclusive, representative decision-making, and ensuring public access to information and protect fundamental freedoms. Conflict and instability pose risks to all parts of the business sector. Anti-corruption engagement increasingly is being used as a litmus test for the overall quality of companies’ business practices and management. Firms also stand to benefit from working with community leaders and other stakeholders to create trust and transparency, thus reducing risk.
