For "Contracts include clauses on forced labour": "Ensuring compliance of UK suppliers; standard contracts include confirmation of compliance with the Modern Slavery Act".

Note: only for "standard contracts".

For "Suppliers produce their own statement": "Ensuring compliance of non-UK suppliers; the majority of our IT purchases consist of branded products whose suppliers already publish anti-slavery statements in accordance with the California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010".

Note: "majority" and only "IT purchases" are to be noted.

For "In development": "EDFT will be taking the following steps: Updating the procurement policy to include, where appropriate, requiring written confirmation of compliance with the Modern Slavery Act from new suppliers and renewals of existing contracts".

Although the statement has a statement that the company will "ensure compliance of UK suppliers" that only applies to standard contracts, I believe this statement is not detailed enough to show that the company has a constructive policy to combat slavery in their supply chains. It should provide more specific steps and actions that the company will take to ensure the compliance of UK suppliers.

Moreover, the statement states that they will "update the procurement policy to include, where appropriate, requiring written confirmation....renewals of existing contracts." EDFT should also consider reviewing their existing contracts and improve any shortcomings for suppliers to follow the Modern Slavery Act.
