About the data
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Target Dashboard tracks companies and financial institutions that have made commitments or had science-based targets validated by SBTi Services. The dataset covers 15,000+ organisations globally across all sectors and organisation types — including corporates, SMEs, and financial institutions — recording their near-term target status, long-term target status, net-zero status, target classification, and target years. The dashboard is updated every Thursday, with commitment removals taking place once a month, ordinarily on the first Thursday of the month. More information can be found here.
Methodology
This metric records the official reason provided in the SBTi Target Dashboard for the extension, expiry, or removal of a company's science-based target or commitment. Values are drawn directly from SBTi's records and may reflect a range of circumstances, including failure to submit targets within the required 24-month commitment window, voluntary withdrawal, or removal in accordance with the SBTi Services Commitment Compliance Policy.
Where a company's target or commitment remains active and has not been extended, expired, or removed, no value will be recorded.
