About the data
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Target Dashboard tracks companies and financial institutions that have made commitments or had science-based targets validated by SBTi Services. The dataset covers 15,000+ organisations globally across all sectors and organisation types — including corporates, SMEs, and financial institutions — recording their near-term target status, long-term target status, net-zero status, target classification, and target years. The dashboard is updated every Thursday, with commitment removals taking place once a month, ordinarily on the first Thursday of the month. More information can be found here.
Methodology
The near-term target status reflects a company's current standing with the Science Based Targets initiative in relation to its near-term science-based target. The SBTi Target Dashboard distinguishes between organisations with validated science-based targets, those that have committed to setting targets, and those that have had their commitments removed.
The possible values for this metric are:
Targets Set — the company has had its near-term science-based target reviewed and validated by SBTi Services. Near-term targets cover a 5–10 year timeframe and must meet the SBTi's Corporate Near-Term Criteria, including required scope coverage and ambition levels.
Committed — the company has made a formal expression of intent to develop a near-term target and submit it for validation within 24 months of the date of submission. A committed organisation does not yet have a validated target.
Commitment Removed — the company submitted a commitment but failed to submit validated targets within the required 24-month window, or had its commitment removed in accordance with the SBTi Services Commitment Compliance Policy.
No Target — the company has no current commitment or validated near-term science-based target on record with the SBTi.
