World Benchmarking Alliance+CSI.2.B Business Relationship Commitment to Respect the Human Rights of Workers+Colgate-Palmolive Company+2024+Discussion

The company has a publicly available statement of policy that expects its business relationships to commit to prohibiting child labour, forced labour, discrimination, and respecting the employees’ lawful freedom of association and of all legal rights to organise and collectively bargain. However, it is unclear whether the company expects its business relationships to respect freedom of association and collective bargaining in all contexts and locations, as the company indicates that it expects its business relationships to respect 'all legal rights' in relation to collective bargaining. Also, the company states that the sections of its third-party code are modelled on ILO conventions, however, the use of the phrase 'modelled on' is too weak to be considered a formal policy commitment.
