The MSA Transparency Statement links to adidas's 'Modern Slavery Risk Assessment' document (https://media.business-humanrights.org/media/documents/files/documents/adidasGroup_Summary_Modern_Slavery_Risk_Assessment_Aug2016rev_002.pdf). Its assessment strategy does not neatly fit the above categories. Instead, it consists of the following three strategies:

- good work practice training for tier 2 supply chain;

- "forging multi-stakeholder partnerships and collaborations with Fair Labor Association, International Labour Organisation, civil society groups and other brands to jointly address risks associated with leather and rubber sourcing from hot spot countries";

- "all cotton will be sourced through the Better Cotton Initiative which includes monitoring for child labour and forced labour".

Answer Change: 'Unknown' to 'Conducting desk research'

Justification:

'In launching the programme in 2016, we conducted an initial risk assessment, following the methodology as outlined in the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) to identify salient risks and priorities.' - 2 statement

'For each of the above categories, we have mapped our extended supply chain at a high level and arrived at the below mentioned high and medium risk countries as potential hot spots for Modern Slavery practices. The US Department of Labor’s List of Goods Produced by Child Labour or Forced Labour and the international non-profit Walk Free’s 2016 Global Slavery Index are the primary sources of information for the country risk analyses, together with adidas Group’s own extensive experience of working conditions in production locations around the world.' - 3 linked source

'Our risk assessment cuts across all tiers of our supply chain and are carried out on a continuous basis relying on stakeholder engagement to inform our risk evaluation ranging from tailored engagements with specific stakeholder groups, with the investor community, through worker interviews, engagement with government agencies on human rights topics or responding to changing regulatory frameworks. These are all material considerations in our risk assessments.' - 4 Policy on Modern Slavery https://www.adidas-group.com/media/filer_public/07/85/07852297-dc8b-4471-aee7-4e5547559d38 adidas_policy_on_modern_slavery_2020.pdf
