VW prohibit child and forced labour (Page 5). VW's Code of conduct reflects their prohibition on modern slavery and human trafficking (Page 6). VW claim that only suppliers that accept their sustainability requirements and commit to the requirements can work with them, but later clarifies that their Code of Conduct for Business Partners is aimed at suppliers (Tier 1) only (Page 8). The Code of Conduct, is reflective of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the relevant conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) (Pages 8 and 9). This indicates that Tier 1 suppliers are compliant with international laws. Since suppliers are subscribing to international law through the code of conduct, it can be argued that supplier contracts have clauses against forced labor, however this wasn't made clear. On Page 7, they claim that their drafting of contracts include "requirements for human rights - in the supply chain, as well as the compliance with legal and internal requirements on human rights are verified in the standard ICS process". This again could suggest that supplier contracts have clauses against forced labour it isn't explicitly stated. The statement above does indicate that Tier 1 suppliers comply with laws and comply policies and that the code of conduct address slavery and human trafficking.

Migrant workers as a term wasn't present in VW's statement. In regards to respecting labour rights, VW states "employment relationships are entered into on a voluntary basis and may be terminated by employees at their own discretion and within a reasonable notice period", however there is no mention of wage protection of freedom of association (Page 9). Further, there was no mention of recruitment fees.
