Canon has disclosed the particular risk with mineral extraction in conflict-prone regions, and has established a 'Procedure for submitting concerns regarding Mineral Risk' on its website in 2015: https://global.canon/en/contact/conflict/conflict-form-e.html (Page 4). This is elaborated upon on Page 7 where it states that Canon 'undergoes audits by independent private sector experts to gain assurance on whether the Group's initiatives on conflict minerals investigation confirm to international standards in the form of the OECD Guidance. An independent assurance report is attached to the Conflict Minerals Report filed with the U.S Securities and Exchange Commission.

Canon has also identified modern slavery and human trafficking risks within their regional supply chain since 2016, labelling industries with generally higher risks as warehousing, distribution, facility management services, manufacturing and forestry. Particularly, Canon UK has identified that the waste sector has more modern slavery related prosecutions than any other sector in the UK. In response, they have added 'waste contractors' to their list of high-risk contractors. Whilst not identifying any specific KPIs for reduction, they have detailed that they 'continue to work on a robust assessment process enabling us to increase traceability, document management, mapping and reporting accuracy along our supply train' and have taken part in the Canon Group Risk Assessment program in 2022 which has been running since 2021 (PAGE 7-8).
