does the reporting quality vary by industry/sector or company? i've noticed that some companies are almost fully transparent whereas i struggled with Sanlam.

any thoughts?

Great question. It could be all of those, but it seems to be varying by company, and size of company. SMEs for example have little reason to report according to certain metrics, and of course the cost of reporting is a factor for smaller companies in particular. The comparison (by sector, size, etc.) is one of the problems the WikiRate format is trying to solve -- the level of transparency is tough to tell with the data points buried in PDFs. If we're able to see where the gaps lie (through Unknown values), comparisons will be possible and insightful.

I'd be interested to hear what others have found on this as well.
