However, despite COSCO stating it "tried to lower and reduce the waste gas emissions to the maximum extent", the company has seen an increased in NOx emissions from 216,921.9T in 2015, to 341,000T the following year.

The report does acknowledge this failure to reduce emissions, stating that these increases were compounded by the "formation of two new controlling terminals after merger of COSCO Group and China Shipping Group in July 2016, and increase of [output] of some terminals."
