The purpose of my research will be to conduct a multiple case study of businesses who have used ecodesign for apparel development, evaluating strategies, methods for implementation, and subsequent environmental performance, which can be used to identify barriers in the role of ecodesign on sustainability and most feasible practices for scalable integration into the textile industry. I will aim to identify differences in sustainability performance, using open environmental data, between companies using similar ecodesign strategies to examine the applicability of ecodesign to the broader apparel industry. Understanding how ecodesign influences sustainability performance is critical to advancing the fashion industry’s transition toward circularity. By clarifying which strategies yield the most effective environmental outcomes and identifying barriers to implementation, this research contributes valuable insights for industry professionals seeking scalable solutions to reduce their organization’s environmental impact.
