General Waste covers all non-hazardous solid and liquid residues generated by a company’s operations - office, manufacturing, retail and distribution - excluding materials already classed as hazardous, biomedical or e-waste. The topic addresses:
- characterisation and quantification of waste streams (mixed municipal, paper & card, plastics, organics, inert construction debris, wastewater sludge);
- application of the waste-management hierarchy - prevention, reduction, reuse, recycling, energy recovery, disposal - across on-site processes and contracted service providers;
- segregation at source, collection logistics, and verification of downstream treatment paths (recycling facilities, composting, anaerobic digestion, waste-to-energy, landfill);
- targets, monitoring and disclosure of absolute and intensity metrics (tonnes, kg per unit output) in alignment with frameworks such as GRI 306-1/306-2, EU ESRS E5 and SDG 12.
