Overview

history edit build

Electronic Waste (E-Waste) encompasses discarded electrical and electronic equipment - computers, phones, appliances, batteries, circuit boards, cables and other components - whose materials or functionality are no longer desired by the user. The topic addresses:

  • classification of e-waste streams (IT & telecom, consumer electronics, lighting, large & small appliances, photovoltaic panels, industrial equipment);
  • identification of hazardous constituents (lead, mercury, cadmium, brominated flame-retardants, PFAS, lithium) and valuable recoverables (gold, copper, rare-earths);
  • collection, storage and transport practices that prevent breakage, data breaches, fire, and environmental release;
  • compliant downstream pathways - repair, refurbishment, parts harvesting, certified recycling (e.g., e-Stewards, R2v3), and disposal of non-recyclable residues - aligned with WEEE, Basel, and national e-waste regulations;
  • measurement and disclosure of quantities generated, recovered and diverted from landfill or informal recycling in line with GRI 306-2/-4, EU ESRS E5 and SDG 12 targets.
