Community Engagement Programs assesses how a company designs and runs structured initiatives that build trust, address local priorities and share value with neighbouring populations throughout the project lifecycle. It covers:
stakeholder mapping & dialogue – systematic identification of community groups (including Indigenous Peoples, youth, elders and vulnerable populations) and ongoing two-way communication channels (town-halls, liaison offices, digital platforms, participatory workshops);
co-created projects & investments – collaborative planning and delivery of programs in areas such as livelihoods, education, health, infrastructure, cultural heritage and environmental stewardship, aligned with community-defined needs and company competencies;
governance & accountability – clear ownership, budgets, timelines, grievance mechanisms and benefit-sharing agreements (e.g., Community Development Agreements) overseen by cross-functional teams and, where applicable, third-party advisory boards;
impact measurement & disclosure – baseline studies, SMART indicators (e.g., jobs created, school attendance rates, water access improvements), independent evaluations and transparent reporting consistent with GRI 413, IFC Performance Standards 1 & 7, and EU ESRS S3.
