About the data
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Target Dashboard tracks companies and financial institutions that have made commitments or had science-based targets validated by SBTi Services. The dataset covers 15,000+ organisations globally across all sectors and organisation types — including corporates, SMEs, and financial institutions — recording their near-term target status, long-term target status, net-zero status, target classification, and target years. The dashboard is updated every Thursday, with commitment removals taking place once a month, ordinarily on the first Thursday of the month. More information can be found here.
Methodology
This metric records the temperature-alignment level that a company's validated near-term science-based target for scope 1 and 2 emissions meets. Scope 1 and 2 emissions cover greenhouse gas emissions from company operations directly and from purchased energy. The classification is drawn from the SBTi Target Dashboard and reflects the ambition level assessed during the target validation process.
The possible values for this metric are:
1.5°C — the company's targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from company operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C.
Well-below 2°C — the company's targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from company operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to well-below 2°C.
2°C — the company's targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from company operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 2°C.
NA — the company has a validated near-term target but no scope 1 and 2 classification is recorded in the SBTi Target Dashboard.
No Target — the company has no validated near-term science-based target on record with the SBTi, or has only made a commitment that has not yet been validated.
The possible values for this metric are:
1.5°C — the company's targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from company operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C.
Well-below 2°C — the company's targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from company operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to well-below 2°C.
2°C — the company's targets covering greenhouse gas emissions from company operations (scopes 1 and 2) are consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 2°C.
