Product and service and labeling - Incidents of non-compliance to voluntary codes (G4-PR4-a3) Methodology

In 2018, the GRI G4 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines were superseded by the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standards (GRI standards). This is the methodology for G4-PR4 which has been superseded by GRI 417-2 - the current GRI 417-2 metric can be found here

About

This metric is based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 Guidelines. It covers one of the requirements of Indicator G4-PR4 - 'Report the total number of incidents of non-compliance with regulations concerning product and service information and labeling resulting in a fine or penalty'.

The display and provision of information and labeling for products and services are subject to many regulations and laws. Non-compliance indicates either inadequate internal management systems and procedures or ineffective implementation. In addition to direct financial consequences, such as penalties and fines (refer to G4-PR9), non-compliance poses a risk to reputation and customer loyalty and satisfaction.

The trends revealed by this Indicator may indicate improvements or deterioration in the effectiveness of internal controls.

Methodology

This metric is looking for the total number of incidents of non-compliance with voluntary codes concerning product and service information and labeling.

For WikiRate researchers:

  • Incidents of non-compliance in which the organization was determined not to be at fault are not counted in this Indicator.

  • This Indicator refers to incidents of non-compliance within the reporting period. If a number of incidents relate to events in preceding periods, indicate this in the comments.

  • If the organization has identified no non-compliance with the above mentioned voluntary codes, please add “0” as the answer and include a brief statement of this fact as a comment to the value. If the company does not report this Indicator, submit the answer as “Unknown”.
