The Center for Active Stewardship (CAS) is a non-profit research organization, housed at the Jain Family Institute, that tracks and analyzes how the world's largest asset managers vote on shareholder proposals concerning climate, human rights, labor standards, and corporate governance. Asset managers steward investments on behalf of hundreds of millions of individuals saving for retirement and their futures, giving them outsized collective influence over corporate behavior through proxy voting—yet their voting decisions frequently diverge from the pro-social and environmental priorities of the clients whose assets they manage. CAS makes this proxy voting data transparent, free to access, and easy to compare, enabling researchers, journalists, and civil society organizations to scrutinize asset manager voting behavior and hold managers accountable for stewardship misalignment. By increasing the visibility and comparability of voting records, CAS aims to shift stewardship alignment from an overlooked detail into a meaningful factor in client trust and retention, driving asset managers to vote more consistently with long-term, pro-social investor preferences. More information can be found, including proxy voting data on more asset managers and funds here.
